Wednesday, June 01, 2011: First session of the 13th state assembly began here Wednesday with the newly elected members being administered the oath by pro-tem speaker N. Sakthan.
The first to take oath was A.P. Abdullakutty of the Congress followed by KV Abdul Khadar, PK Abdurub. Senior CPM leader and former Chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan too was sworn in as member of the new house. The House has 141 members including an Anglo Indian representative.
Meanwhile AK Balan and G Karthikeyan, the LDF and UDF nominees for the post of Speaker of the 13th Kerala Assembly also filed their nomination papers, soon after the swearing in ceremony of the newly elected MLAs.
The election of Speaker will be held on Thursday. While G. Karthikeyan will be UDF’s Speaker candidate, LDF’s nominee is former power minister A.K. Balan.
The UDF has 72 and the LDF 68 members in the Assembly.
