T.J. Joseph's attack case handed over to NIA

June 13, 2011: Naushad, an accused in the sensational hand chopping case in Muvattupuzha who was arrested earlier today has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Naushad was handed over to the agency for five days following the Special Court order on Monday.
T.J. Joseph, a lecturer at Newman College, Thodupuzha, was attacked at Muvattupuzha on July 4, 2010 .The NIA took over the case following slow progress of investigation into the incident which had invited widespread condemnation from across the country.
Joseph, 52, was returning home with his family after attending morning prayers at a church when a group of people who had come in a van pulled him out of his car and attacked him for allegedly preparing an inflammatory question paper in July last year. Joseph’s right hand was chopped off and thrown some 200 meters away, police said.
Joseph, a professor of Malayalam at Newman College, Thodupuzha, a Christian minority institution affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University had his hand cut off at the wrist on allegation of blasphemy by Muslim radicals belonging to Popular Front of India, a confederation of radical fanatic Muslim fundamentalist and extremist (the information is based on the media reports.
