Kerala Budget : KPCC plays down disputes between partymen

Sunday, July 10, 2011: KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala today played down the differences of opinion between the Congress leaders over the alleged imbalances in the State budget.
Speaking to the reporters here on Sunday, Chennithala criticized the public statements made by the Congress MLAs against the state budget presented by State Finance Minister, KM Mani.
There are minor anomalies in the allocation of money for the development of the fisheries sector and the coastal areas in the Budget. This will be brought to the attention of the Minister, he added.
The hartal called by the LDF in Alappuzha on Tuesday as a protest against the budget was politically motivated. Chennithala added that the budget had not sidelined Alappuzha district but has given prominence to all 14 districts.
Earlier, Congress MLAs led by T.N.Prathapan had raised objections to the allegedly ‘partisan’ nature of several proposals in the interim Budget presented by the finance minister.
The MLAs then approached Ramesh Chennithala saying the budget has totally sidelined the coastal areas. They also alleged that the Budget was ‘Kottayam-centric’.
