Move out in three days : Collector

KOCHI: The district administration has started to take steps to evacuate those who have encroached on the pavements by building petty shops.“We have given them three days to clear out of the places they have encroached upon. Tough steps would be taken, if they are not ready to comply with the orders,” said P I Sheik Pareeth. The decision was taken at the road safety meeting convened in the Collector’s Chamber on Thursday. To ensure road safety steps would be taken to install webcams at Palarivattom Junction and other important highways.The district administration is  also planning to  introduce a software which would bring a permanent solution to help trace those who flout traffic norms. The meeting also decided to direct the Corporation to take immediate steps to renovate the Ferry Road in front of St Teresa’s College. 
The canals will be cleaned and waste removed at the earliest. “An assessment camera equipped with censors at Vyttila is also on the cards,” the Collector said.The beverages shop near the Vyttila Mobility Hub will be shifted to a suitable place. The authorities will ensure that vehicles are properly parked on all important roads. For this, the PWD Department, the Corporation and the National Highway Police should work hand.“The formation of a Police Enforcement Scheme to control line traffic is also under consideration,” Pareeth said. Measures will also be taken to form traffic control enclosures to restrict vehicles.The district administration also asked the RTO  to take steps to curb the rash driving of the buses.The number of speed tracer cameras will be increased and will be installed at all important junctions. The PWD Department informed that they have begun the construction of a median and hoped that they could complete it at the earliest. To review the steps that have been taken so far, the Collector said that more departments would be included in the process.
