Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple vault B on friday

Tuesday, July 05, 2011: The ‘B’ cellar of the Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple here would not be opened soon. A decision on opening the cellar would be taken after a meeting to be held on Friday.
Retired judge MN Krishnan told reporters that “some sort of expertise” would be needed to open chamber B. He said that a seven-member committee appointed by the Supreme Court and headed by him would meet on Friday.
In the meantime, the committee appointed by the apex court has been continuing its search operations at the cellars of the temple. The team has been searching the ‘E’ cellar, where the objects for the daily ‘pujas’ were kept.
Opening of the long-locked chambers, on Supreme Court orders, began on June 27. The search and subsequent stock-taking of the cellars had revealed priceless treasures which according to unofficial estimates were worth over Rs 90,000cr. The committee has not confirmed this figure.
Tight security arrangements are in place in the temple premises. A 24-hour police control room has been opened and round-the-clock mobile patrolling is on.
