ATM theft again, two lose Rs 50,000 each

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Online ATM theft in the capital city again. A native of Chempazhanthy and an NRI have lost Rs 50,000 each.

Vineeth, an employee of a private company lost Rs 49,156 yesterday. He had made an online deal of Rs 2500 to recharge the private DTH service on September 12. He had given the account number for it. Soon after that, he lost Rs 49,156 from his account in 11 dealings.

He received a message yesterday stating that the amount has been withdrawn from his account in Cosmo branch of the Canara Bank. He soon reached the bank and lodged a complaint which was later handed over to the medical college police. The police have collected more details of the bank account.

The second person who lost his money is Aravind, a native of the capital city and a pravasi. He lost Rs 52,000 from his account in the Axis Bank in Pattom. Money has been withdrawn from many ATMs. He has also lodged a complaint at the medical college hospital.

The new theft has been reported days after money was withdrawn from the account of a college lecturer.  Police said more details are being collected with the help of the cyber police.
