Murder of retd deputy tehsildar: Life sentence for accused

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram additional sessions judge V K Rajan awarded life imprisonment to Dilip Kumar of Kilimanoor,  accused in the murder case of retd deputy tehsildar. A fine of Rs 70,000 was also slapped on him. Dilip’s neighbor Shylaja, former deputy tehsildar and wife of Mohankumar of Kilimanoor was murdered while resisting theft on October 9 in 2014.  

Mohankumar, who was running M S Finance, a private money lending firm, too sustained serious injuries in the attack. Offences likes murder, attempt to murder, robbery have been charged on him. On the day the crime was committed, he came to the firm in the pretext of pawning gold. He soon took a hammer from his bag hit Mohankumar on his head and stole the ornaments. He then hit Shylaja on her head and murdered her.

On the next day, he paid an arrears of Rs 20,000 in the bank taken as housing loan. In the midst of the probe, his wife lodged a missing complaint. In the meantime, the police noticed that he is linked in the case. They later took him into custody and recovered the hidden gold ornaments and hammer.
