Disproportionate Assets case: Vigilance tightens noose around Babu

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance department has tightened the noose around former minister K Babu, who is facing trial in a Disproportionate Assets case.

The Vigilance will give letter to Assembly secretary to submit information on the salary drawn by K Babu. It will also approach the Income Tax department to get information on Babu’s Tax returns. The aim will be to get a clear picture of discrepancies between his source of income and assets.

There are reports that the Vigilance will ask for his wife’s explanation over emptying of bank lockers all on a sudden. The Vigilance had earlier conducted raids in his house and his alleged benamis’ houses. Though they had checked the bank lockers of Babu and his family members, no substantial evidence could be obtained. Later it was found that the lockers were emptied hours before the raid.
