In the A batch competition of famous Aranmula Uthrattadi boat race, Mallappuzhasseri Palliyodam emerged winners and in the B batch, Thaimaravumkara Palliyodam came first.
During the finals of the B batch, Mangalam Palliyodam capsized at the finishing point, creating anxious moments.
The boat race took place under strict security arrangements, considering the incident in which two persons died after a Palliyodam capsized in Pampa when it hit dunes. 12 security boats including four speed boats will provide security for the jala mela. People who know swimming will only be allowed as rowers in boats. Thousands of policemen have been deployed and iron wire fence are placed along Pampa banks to regulate heavy rush.
