Soumya case: Review plea this week, seeks argument in open court

NEW DELHI: A review plea against Supreme Court’s verdict cancelling the death sentence of Govindachami, accused in the Soumya murder case, will be filed this week itself, said Law Minister A K Balan. Talking to the media, he said they will seek argument of review plea in the open court.

Held talks with Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi in connection with the filing of the review plea. The chief minister had a telephonic conversation with the AG and he will file the plea in the court. Usually review pleas are heard in the judges’ chamber.

The government wants death penalty to be awarded to Govindachamy. The government is with the family of Soumya. The criticism of the UDF on this issue is degraded. Oommen Chandy Government appointed Thomas P Joseph, who argued the case. The LDF had not changed the advocate. Life imprisonment is that it should be the end of one’s life, he said.
