Pinarayi requests railway minister to solve concern of train com

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan Sunday requested  Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu to take immediate steps to ensure security and solve the concern of the train passengers of the state.

A letter was sent in the wake of the three train accidents that happened in the last two months. The engine of Maveli Express going from Mangalore to Thiruvanthapuram caught fire near Cheruvathur station in Kasargod. Many coaches of the Thiruvananthapuram-Mangalore Express derailed near Karukutty railway station near Ernakulam on August 28 was the second accident. A goods train derailed near Karunagapally in Kollam on September 20. A technical snag occurred on the Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai express weeks back.

There are no basic facilities like water and light in long-distance service trains. Coaches are not cleaned daily. The coaches permitted for Kerala is outdated and many are rusted. The passengers are in fear due to recurrent accidents. The pathetic condition of coaches and trains operating services in the state should be examined. The union railway ministry should intervene on the issue, the letter mentioned.
