Why Cong restless when bribery is ended in self-financing colleges, asks Pinarayi

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said his government has been able to end bribery in self-financing college admission. “I was wondering why this Congress men are discomfited over putting an end to this bribery in college admissions and ensuring merit system,” he asked at a press conference here on Tuesday.

“The government has helped poor students get more seats at low fees. The UDFwhich had given opportunities to managements to charge exorbitant fee according to their whims and fancies have now come out in protest. They have to clarify for whom they are taking the current stand. According to the agreement with the management, the number of merit seats has increased from 800 to 1150. It was also ensured that the admission to management seats should be done on merit basis. In the past, managements have taken up to Rs 8 lakh for a seat and now it has come down to Rs 25000. This system has been accepted by both students and parents. It is natural for people who don’t agree with this to feel restless. Such people are messing up Assembly proceedings,” the chief minister explained.

Pinarayi said the Opposition was not ready to give explanation after giving notice for adjournment motion regarding the issue. “This means they didn’t want answer for questions in the issue. Chennithala and his MLAs decided beforehand that there should not be answer session and hence they messed up the whole proceedings,” he added.
