Centre should intervene to bring back Malaylis stranded in Riyadh: CM

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written to Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to intervene immediately to bring 72 Indians including Malayalis stranded in Riyadh back to India. “Having survived big crisis, the Indians have been living in the labour camp near Riyadh’s Exit 8. They have also not been getting the salary for the past one year. Though we have complained the matter to Embassy, no steps have been taken till date,” the chief minister wrote.

“The chief minister said their Iccama had not been renewed since August and hence they were not able to go out of the camp. In the camp with no proper ventilation, they are not getting sufficient food or water. They are sustaining their life by consuming food given by voluntary organisation. As the company is not paying the rent, the inmates are also under the threat of getting expelled from the labour camp. Under these circumstances, the Centre should intervene immediately,” CM wrote.
