90-yr-old women ‘physically abused’ at knifepoint

KOLLAM: Police have filed a case in connection with an incident in which a 90-year-old woman was physically abused at knife-point.

Police swung into action only after the media reported about the woman, who was denied treatment even after the incident. Under the instruction of Rural SP Ajitha Beegum, police today filed the case and started investigation. Police have recorded the statement of the woman.

The incident happened five days ago. The woman, a cancer patient, has been living alone in the house. According to the victim, on that particular day, a man broke open the kitchen door at about 2 am and entered the house. Even when she pleaded not to hurt her, the attacker didn’t back out. When she protested, he took out his knife and abused her at knifepoint.

Though she had told her relatives about the incident, they kept it a closely guarded secret.

After the incident the granny had been undergoing physical discomfort.

State Women’s Commission chairperson K C  Rosakutty informed that the case has been filed suo-moto over the incident. She has also given instructions to provide all necessary help to the old woman.
