Bridge collapses at Kochi-Madhura National high way

ADIMALI: A support wall of the iron bridge at Kallar and located between Adimali and Munnar along Kochi-Madhura national high way collapsed, hampering the traffic on the bridge on Sunday.

The bridge slanted to one side as mud was being removed from its side for the construction works of the new concrete bridge.
Following this, the flow of traffic on this bridge was suspended. The vehicles going to Munnar are now going through Iruttukanathu and Anachal.

Idukki MP Joyce George and local administration department chief engineer will visit the place today.

The foundation work for the new bridge had started last week. They had dug up 18 metres as the rock was not visible at 14 metres, which ultimately affected the bridge.

After spotting the damage, the traffic on this bridge was prohibited by the district collector. Top officials and contractors visited the bridge during the day. The traffic here is expected to be reinstated within a week.
