Maoists open fire at police in Nilambur

MALAPPURAM: The police and the thunderbolt have intensified a probe in the forests and the colony near to it after the presence of Maoists were confirmed in Nilambur.  There was an exchange of fire between the Maoists and the police in Nilambur at 9 pm last night at the Nedungayam Mundakadavu Colony.

No casualty has been reported. Maoist Soman, a native of Wayanad and his team reached the colony at 6 pm in the evening. They reached to take people in their team and to take classes for them.  They fled soon after knowing the presence of the police. They fired five shots, said Perinthalmanna DySP Mohanachandran. A search is led by district police chief Debesh Kumar Behra.
