Hartal begins, Vilappilsala comes to a standstill

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An indefinite hartal has started in the Vilappilsala area which turned into a battlefield after a short gap. Transportation has come to a standstill in Vilappilsala and its surrounding areas.

Shops and other establishments remain closed in the area. The functioning of government offices, banks and educational institutions will be disrupted. Security has been beefed up in these places.  The protestors said they will continue their strike till the government orders closure of the Vilappilsala factory.

People including children of Vilappilsala are taking part in the strike. Vilappil panchayat president S Shobana Kumari’s hunger strike has entered the third day. Many from various sectors of the society have reached the spot expressing solidarity. A large contingent of police has been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incidents.

The government has called an all-party meeting tomorrow to discuss the issue.
