One more farmer commits suicide

KOZHIKODE: A debt-ridden farmer, who consumed poison, died in Kozhikode Medical College Hospital Sunday. Police said Sivan (65), hailing from Pazhuppathur in Wayanad, had consumed poisonous substance and succumbed today.

His family sources said Sivan took the extreme steps as he was unable to pay back about Rs 5 lakh loan taken from various agencies, including banks and individuals. Many farmers had committed suicides in the hilly district during the last couple of months as they were unable to return loans due to crop failure.
