THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the sensational Paul Muthoot murder case, a CBI court on Tuesday granted life term to first nine convicts including first convict Jayachandran and second convict Kaari Satheesh. Jayachandran was also asked to pay a fine of Rs 50,000, while convicts from number two to seven were told to pay Rs 55,000 each as fine.
For convicts from number 10 to 13, the court ordered three years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000 each. For want of proper evidence, 14th accused Aneesh was acquitted.
Meanwhile, in the case in which conspiracy was hatched to kill Mannacherry Nazeer, the court granted three-year rigorous imprisonment to 14 convicts.
The convicts had entered into a tussle with Paul when they were on their way to murder Nazeer and the duel ended up in homicide.
Apart from Jayachandran and Satheesh, Sathar, Akash Sasidharan, Satheesh Kumar, Rajeevkumar, Shino Paul, Faisal, Sulfikkar and Sabeer got life imprisonment. Abi, Riyaz, Siddique and Esmail got three-year imprisonment. Though the 14 accused in the case Aneesh was acquitted in the absence of sufficient evidence, he will have to undergo three-year imprisonment in a contract killing case.
Paul M George was stabbed to death in the midnight of August 21, 2009 near Ponga Jyothi Junction along Alappuzha-Changanassery Road. He and his friends, from his Ernakulam office, were on their way to Alappuzha office in the evening.
