KOCHI: The state election commission informed the Kerala High Court that they are not against extending the local body polls for a month. The affidavit submitted in the high court by the election commissioner has stated that they don’t have any role on the delay in polls. The government had requested the court to extend the polls for a month.
In the present situation, the polls cannot be conducted in a single phase. Talks were held with the government in connection with the conduct of polls. The decision taken then will be followed. The commission said they will cooperate with the government for the smooth conduct of the polls.
The commission informed the court that polls would be conducted based on new ward bifurcation in 28 new municipalities and Kannur Corporation.
