Will not allow to delay local body polls: Kodiyeri

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has insisted on conducting the State local body elections in October itself. “The poll dates should be announced soon. The model code of conduct should be announced tomorrow itself,” he said at a press conference here on Sunday.

He said postponing the election could never be justified. In the all-party meeting held on Monday, CPM would make a demand on that line. “Election commission has the liability to obey the instructions of the high court regarding the conduct of polls. The government that should help the Election Commission in conducting the polls is creating trouble for the Commission by trying to extend the poll date,” he said.

“If the government succeeds in postponing the poll slated for October, it can again delay the poll by citing Sabarimala season in November. Thus the government has been trying to postpone the polls indefinitely. The government’s intention behind this move is to implement Administrator rule and take over LDF-ruled Panchayats. Even the UDF has prepared the list of Administrators,” he said
