Ban parading of elephants: Animal Welfare board

NEW DELHI: Animal Welfare Board of India has urged the Union government to ban the parading of elephants in public places.

The plea is to ban elephant shows in festivals and circus. The board on Thursday handed over the recommendation to the Centre.

In 1998, the government had issued a circular banning exhibition of leopard, tiger, lion and monkeys in public places and circus venues. At that time, elephants were excluded from the list
