No restrictions on Onam celebrations in schools; Circular withdrawn

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has withdrawn the circular, imposing restrictions on Celebrations in higher secondary schools.

Earlier, Higher Secondary Director had issued an order asking students not to indulge in celebrations throughout the working day in the name of Onam.  It was this order that was withdrawn after the education minister intervened.

The higher secondary director’s order had become a controversy and it read thus:
“The students should wear uniform and take part in the celebrations. If they want to wear special dress, they should take the prior permission of the Principal. Collection of money or too much pomp should be avoided. The celebrations should not affect exams, studies or other school activities. PTA and School Management committees should be made part of the celebrations. The celebrations should not go  against the discipline of schools.”
