Palakkad :Five officials of the Velanthavalam sales tax check post have been suspended in connection with the incident of taking bribe at the check post on Thursday.
Inspectors Prabhakaran, N Naseem, Clerical assistant Moideen and office assistants Mohan and Ajeesh Kumar are the suspended officials.
The Vigilance team had seized unaccounted money worth Rs 3,00,600 from the official in the raid.
Thisis the highest amount that has been seized in a Vigilance raid in Government offices.
After Valayar, Velanthavalam check post is the most important sales tax check post in Palakkad district. The cash taken as bribe from goods lorry drivers was found stacked between old files and papers. The cash was separated into denominations of 100 and 500 and was covered with papers.
