Eight held for theft

KANNUR: Police arrested all the eight accused in the jewellery shop heist in which they attacked the owner and looted 1.500 kg of gold ornaments and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash on September 17 this year. Five of them were arrested by police recently while three surrendered before the police. Police also recovered 1250 kg of the robbed gold from the accused and Rs 1 lakh cash during different raids from their houses. Two of the accused are quotation gang members Rijas and M H Siyad of Thoppupadi in Ernakulam. The others were kingpin P P Riyaz, T Manoj, Eacha Rajeevan, P P Rivaj, C Sajeevan and P Manzoor. They hailed from Thaliparamba near here. All of them were remanded to judicial custody and lodged at Kannur Central Jail, police said.
