Govt to implement road corridor project

 
KANNUR: PWD Minister V K Ebrahim Kunhu said his government has decided to implement 'Road Corridor' for road safety in all main roads of the state. The Minister said for this purpose, the government had sought a report which would be submitted by the authorities concerned within two months following which road safety measures like speed breakers, high mast lamps and observation cameras would be implemented. The aim was to achieve 'zero-accident roads,' Kunhu said. Already work had begun at MC Road in Ernakaulam under the project, he disclosed.  Kunhu said the PWD decided to launch Rs 40 crore worth development works to improve road safety at Chala in Kannur following the LPG tanker explosion recently in which 20 people died.
He also said Kannur Municipality was included in the city road improvement project under the Road Fund Board (RFB) along with Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kozhikode Corporations. He said work on beautification of roads in Thiruvananthapuram was in the final stage. He said road beautification works would be started soon in Ernakulam and Kozhikode Corporations.
Earlier, the Minister inaugurated the works on the new Moidu Bridge and said it would be completed in 18 months. The old bridge would be maintained as a heritage structure as it was built in 1930 by the British, he said.
