Centre criticized at NITI Aayog meet

NEW DELHI: The centre was criticized by Kerala at the first meeting of the governing council of NITI Aayog in New Delhi brought in place of the planning commission.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who attended the meeting, said the state was informed about it only three days before and so enough time was not obtained to prepare the demands and suggestions. Chandy said that he is not clear which all centralized projects would be implemented in states.

The centre’s action will badly affect the state budget as the meet was convened in haste. As the state is not aware of the central projects, an amount should be earmarked for the projects in the budget. This will affect the budget badly. There is no clarity on the financial aid for states.

The centre has not clarified what roles the states have in the Make in India Scheme. The state has so far not obtained the recommendations of the 14th finance commission, said Chandy.

Jandhan Yojana, Beti Bachao projects are not needed for the state. The state is implementing similar projects and is ahead in all that, he said.
