ALAPPUZHA: CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat said on Monday that Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan is an inseparable part of the party and he hoped that the veteran leader would partake in the future activities of the party with discipline.
He was delivering his inaugural speech during the valedictory function of the CPM conference held at the EMS stadium in Alappuzha on Monday.
Expressing his disappointment over Opposition leader V S Achuthanadan’s absence in the conference, Karat said V S is a leader who had fostered the party across the length and breadth of the State. “We had requested him to return to the conference after he kept off the venue on the second day of the conference. Our hope is that he would return to the forefront of the party, upholding party discipline. Nobody, no individual or group is above the party,” he said.
Karat said that people had decided that CPM-led Left is the apt alternative for corruption-tainted UDF government in the State. “The coming days will see agitations against non-populist UDF rule. In order to counter the communal-Right wing forces, a unity group of secular democratic Left parties should be nurtured,” he added.
