Mohanlal refuses to take back money

KOCHI: Following the controversy over actor Mohanlal’s Lalisom, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan on Saturday morning visited Mohanlal’s house at Thevara (Kochi) to smooth his ruffled feathers. The ministers were also accompanied by Benny Bahanan MLA.

According to sources, the chief minister requested Mohanlal to withdraw his decision to return the payment for Lalisom, but the latter didn’t budge. He expressed his discomfort in taking back the money already returned.

The ministers expressed their regret over dragging Mohanlal into controversies. Even after the chief minister tried to persuade Mohalal to take back the money, the actor persisted that he would not do that.

Later Lal told the ministers that he was willing to transfer the money (Rs 1.4 cr) to some other projects of the government or, in case that was not possible, to the relief fund of the chief minister. The money, in all likelihood, would go to the relief fund, according to sources.

Meanwhile, the cheque sent by the actor had been sent for collection through usual government procedures, Games CEO Jacob Punnoose informed on Friday. He said that the money would go to Games Fund and that he had not been informed about returning the money to Mohanlal.
