KANNUR: Police, on Friday, carried out a raid in the house of James Mathew, who is the second accused in a murder case, as soon as the court rejected his anticipatory bail.
The raid was carried out by a team led by investigation officer C I K A Bose. Police also went to the house of M V Shaji, the first accused in the case. But as the house remain locked, they couldn’t raid it. He was the victim’s colleague and his house is located near Chuzhali village office.
According to the information available with the police, Shaji is not currently in Kerala. The court had rejected his anticipatory bail, as well. The raid was ordered by Thalipparambu DySP A Surendran.
Considering the fact that James Mathew is an MLA, the investigation team had informed the Speaker about their raid plans. As the Assembly is not in session, police can arrest the MLA without waiting for Speaker’s permission.
The investigation team has found out that the MLA had made unnecessary interference in the construction activities of Tagore Vidhya Nikethan Schhol. Cyber cell has also evidence of Mathew and Shaji talking to Sashidharan for unusually long hours on the previous day of his death.
Meanwhile, James Mathew is known to have contacted eminent advocates in New Delhi in the wake of the court rejecting his anticipatory bail. If they advise, he may also approach the Supreme. However, CPM circles, which has not confirmed the above information, have taken the stand that “let the law takes its own course”.
