Falling standard of education in public schools, says SCERT report

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The report of the SCERT says the standard of education of students are seen falling in public schools. The report says 47% students of fourth standard are far behind in Malayalam. When 5% don’t even know to write Malayalam alphabets, a 2.5% don’t know English alphabets.

When 47.52% students of fourth standard are behind in Malayalam, 5% students of seventh standard don’t know Malayalam. 25% students of fourth standard don’t know English and this is 30% in seventh standard.

Students are far behind in Maths and basic science. 10.88% don’t even know the basics of Maths. 85% of students are behind in basic science.

A study was conducted on 2000 students of fourth and seventh classes of Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kasargod districts. The report says more importance should be given to languages. Also a better training should be given to teachers.
