May 29 : A remission petition seeking a reduction of jail term on the grounds of ill health was reportedly submitted by Kerala Congress (B) Leader R Balakrishna Pillai, who is undergoing one-year rigorous imprisonment in Edamalayar case.
His son K B Ganesh Kumar is the Minister for Forest, Environment and Sports in the Oommen Chandy Cabinet.

Party sources today said the petition was submitted to State Home Secretary saying that Mr Pillai was suffering from cardiac problems and acute diabetes.

Meanwhile, the Jail DGP yesterday extended him parole for another 13 days.

Earlier, he was granted parole on May 18 after he sought permission to visit his ailing wife.

However, with this extension, his total parole-quota (45 days) for the year would be over.
