Protest against denial of cabinet berth to Muraleedharan

May 26, 2011: Protests are raging within the Congress in Kerala over the neglect shown by the party leadership towards senior and efficient functionaries in the formation of the UDF Cabinet. The Congress, which leads the UDF coalition, is also under fire over the imbalance in the representation of various communities in the Ministry.
The supporters of K Muraleedharan, son of late Congress leader K Karunakaran and Congress MLA from Vattiyoorkkavu constituency, today held protest march in Kottayam over the party’s decision to deny cabinet berth to him in the 13th Kerala Assembly.
Murali had earlier boycotted the swearing-in ceremony of 13 Ministers including nine from the Congress on Monday, obviously in protest against the denial of a berth in the Cabinet and alleged refusal to invite him to the function.
Muraleedharan was State Congress chief from 2001 to 2004 and a minister in the former Chandy Cabinet. After being suspended from the party in 2005, he formed the DIC(K) along with his father but later merged it with Sharad Pawar’s NCP, which he left last year with the wish to return to the Congress. He had returned to the Congress just before the Assembly polls.
