Thursday 19 May 2011: The Loka Ayukta, a judicial forum constituted to investigate allegations of corruption and maladministration against persons holding public office, ordered K. Muraleedharan, MLA, to appear before it on June 27 on the charges of cheating, forgery, and violation of the Peoples Representation Act.
Judges M. Pareed Pillai and G. Sasidharan issued the summons on the basis of a petition filed by one T. V. Shihabudeen, a Congress sympathiser from northern Kerala.
In his petition, Shihabudeen alleged that Muraleedharan had violated Section 125 (a) of the Peoples Representation Act by submitting a “false affidavit” regarding his wealth while filing of his nomination to contest from the Vattiyurkavu Assembly constituency in Thiruvananthapuram district.
