Youth beaten to death

KOCHI: A youth, suspected to have mental illness, was beaten to death after he allegedly attempted to molest a 65-year-old woman. The woman’s son and three others are currently under police surveillance. The incident occurred at Aroor around 5.30 am on Monday. Antony, 27, of Koonamavu, who was employed as a cleaning worker at a luxury hotel, allegedly attempted to molest the woman in front of her home at Aroor. On hearing her cries for help, Rajesh, her son and neighbours came and beat up Antony. A police party which reached the spot on being alerted by the public, took Antony first to the Tripunithura Taluk Hospital and then to the General Hospital, but his life could not be saved. Police sources said that Antony had been showing signs of mental instability recently.
