Death of babies: Gynaecologist suspended
MANANTHAVADY: A gynaecologist was suspended in connection with the death of three babies delivered by an adivasi woman in the midst of a journey. Duty doctor Sushma of Mananthavady district hospital was suspended in connection with the incident. She was suspended for dereliction of duty. The report of the DMO had mentioned lapses from the side of the duty doctor.
Anitha, wife of Krishnan of Valad Edathana Kurichya Colony, gave birth to three babies-two boys and a girl during a journey. The duty doctor was not in the hospital when Anitha was taken there with severe pain. The nurse present in the hospital immediately informed the duty doctor but she directed to take her to the medical college hospital.
An ambulance was arranged for her but as she had severe pain she was admitted at Panamaram CHC. She delivered her first baby here and as her condition turned worse she was taken to Kalpetta General Hospital. When the ambulance reached Pachilakkat, she delivered her second baby inside it and the third was delivered at Kalpetta Hospital. All the three babies died. The condition of Anitha is stated to be stable.
