Monday, May 16, 2011: The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Monday fixed May 19 as the next date of hearing a plea challenging the resolution issued by the Centre to constitute a committee on the Lokpal Bill.
A division bench of Justices Pradeep Kant and Vedpal directed Attorney General GE Vahanvati, appearing for the Centre, to file a better counter-affidavit on the next hearing.
The court had issued notice to the Attorney General on April 20 to file the Union government’s reply on the issue within three weeks.
The petitioner, local lawyer Ashok Pandey, submitted that under the existing Constitutional provisions the Centre cannot issue resolution or notification to constitute a committee on Lokpal Bill.
