Thursday, May 12, 2011: Congress MP Kodikunnil Suresh welcomed the Apex Court directive quashing the order issued by the Kerala High Court nullifying his election as an MP from the Mavelikkara reserve constituency. Speaking to the reporters here on Thursday, Kodikunnil opined that he had faith in the Judiciary as well as in the Supreme Court.
A division bench of the Supreme Court ruled Kodikunnil Suresh can continue as an MP and his election from Mavelikkara reserved constituency is valid.
The Court had nullified the election of Suresh as an MP based on a complaint by RS Anil, his opponent in the elections and two others. The complainants had pointed out Suresh had submitted two certificates two community certificates one as Hindu Cheramar and the other as Hindu Pulaya. They had also pointed out that Suresh is a converted Christian.
