AIYF, DYFI activists lay siege to Tvm railway station

Wednesday, March 14, 2012: Hundreds of AIYF, DYFI activists on Wednesday laid siege to the Thiruvananthapuram Railway station against the alleged neglect shown towards Kerala in the railway budget.
The police cordoned the protesters from entering the railway station which led to a minor scuffle between the police and the protestors. Meanwhile Opposition leader and CPM stalwart VS Achuthanandan termed the Railway Budget as “directionless” and “anti-people” saying it was as “a slap in the face” for Kerala.
Addressing the presspersons here on Wednesday, VS added that the response of the public against the railway budget would reflect in the Piravom by-election. The rail budget presented by Union Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Wednesday has been unkind to Kerala.
For Kerala nothing much was offered except work on the Kanjikode factory to be completed soon. A survey will be conducted for a new railway terminal in Nemam. Also, a coach terminal in Kottayam is also planned.
The discussion would begin for a feasibility study on a new high speed rail corridor between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasargod.
