Arya murder case: DGP lauds cops
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: DGP Jacob Punnoose has congratulated the police team which nabbed the suspect in the Arya murder case. At a function held at the police headquarters here on Friday, the DGP told the members of the team that he would recommend the maximum reward for them. The DGP talked to each member of the team.
Southern Range IG Sheik Darvesh Saheb and Thiruvananthapuram Rural SP A J Thomaskutty were also present at the function. Attingal DySP B K Prasanth, Venjarammoodu Circle Inspector K R Biju and civil police officers Ajithkumar and Mohanan, among others, were those who were congratulated by the DGP.
The police team had arrested Rajesh Kumar, the suspect in the Arya murder case, on March 13 from Kattakkada. Arya, daughter of Vijayakumar and Jayakumari of Chirakkonathu Vilayil Veetil, Vettinadu, Vattappara, was killed allegedly by the accused on March 6 when she was alone at home.
According to the police, Rajesh Kumar, an auto driver, had approached Arya asking a screwdriver, realising that she was alone at home. The accused then snatched her gold chain and tried to rape her. Police reports said that Arya died of suffocation. She was a 10th standard student of Kanyakulangara Girls’ HSS.
