Captain of ‘Prabhu Daya’ to be presented before Court today


Wednesday, March 14, 2012: Gordon Charles Pereira, captain of ‘M V Prabhu Daya’ that collided with a fishing boat off Alappuzha coast killing five Indian fishermen on March 1 will be brought before Ambalappuzha Judicial Magistrate Court today.
The police have completed the arrest procedures. A police team headed by Alappuzha Dy SP Mahesh Kumar reached Chennai port and arrested him on Wednesday after the Madras High Court had rejected his anticipatory bail plea.
The police had earlier registered murder attempt cases against the ship captain and some crew for allegedly pushing Prasobh Sugathan, a malayalee second officer, out of the ship. Prasobh, who is the first accused in the case, was in charge of the merchant vessel at the time of the accident.
