Defamation case: Crime Nandakumar slapped Rs 25 lakh fine


Kozhikode: Kozhikode first additional sub judge K E Salih has slapped a fine of Rs 25 lakh on crime magazine editor TP Nandakumar in a defamation case where the newspaper published fake news regarding kidney trading in a hospital. The verdict was pronounced on the plea filed by Baby Memorial hospital managing director Dr KG Alexander. The court also asked to give 12 % interest of the fine amount from April 12, 2002 onwards and to incur the court expenses. The series was published in the newspaper on kidney trade from January 19, 2002 in the newspaper. 


Earlier, on the same case, the Kozhikode judicial first class magistrate (VI) sentenced Nandakumar for three months and the case is under the consideration of the Kerala HC
