KOCHI: Tension prevailed in the Pazhanthottam St Mary’s Church over conducting a funeral on Friday.
The entry into the church, which was sealed by the police some time ago, was prohibited for both the Jacobite as well as the Orthodox factions.
The dispute broke out when a section of Orthodox believers insisted on burying the body of one Thomas at the church cemetery.
“As the situation became worse, the police had to use force to disperse protestors,” said Manoj, CI, Puthencruz Police Station.
Muvattupuzha RDO Maniyamma and Aluva Rural SP Philip have been camping on the church premises to hold discussions with the Orthodox faction.
