Four shops gutted as major fire breaks out in Kozhikode

Saturday, March 10, 2012: As many as four shops were completely gutted in a major fire that broke out at Palayam market in Kozhikode district on Saturday early morning.
The fire was first noticed by local residents at a hotel and they immediately informed the matter to the near by fire station. The fire then began to spread to the nearby shops. Fire and Rescue Service personnel are trying hard to douse the fire.
Meantime, the enraged mob tried to manhandle district collector P B Salim, who reached the spot. The delay of the fire force to reach the spot was the reason for the protest and they also alleged that the fire force did not have enough water in the fire engines.
No casualties have been reported in the incident.
