Hartal peaceful in Koilandi

Sunday, March 11, 2012: As an aftermath of the police action against CPI (M) activists a 12 hour hartal was observed in Koilandi region on Saturday.
The shops and educational institutions were closed down and the entire region was under police cover. Medical shops were exempted from the hartal. No violence was reported from the area.
The party had took out a march to the Koilandi Police Station demanding release of an activist held in connnection with the attack on a BJP man recently. CPI (M) MLA K Dasan and some others were injured in skirmishes that ensued after police prevented the activists from entering the station. A state run KSRTC bus was partially damanged in stone pelting by the enraged activists.
