Italian ship owner furnish Rs 3 crore bank guarantee

Wednesday, March 7, 2012: Italian ship owner on Tuesday furnished a bank guarantee for Rs three crore as per the direction of Kerala High Court in the case related to the killing of two Indian fishermen.
Now the merchant ship ‘Enrica Lexie’ can leave Kochi. A division bench, comprising Justices Thothathil B Radhakrishnan and CT Ravikumar earlier directed the ship owners to furnish a bank guarantee for three crore, instead of Rs 25 lakh each.
Petitions were filed by Doramma, wife of Jelestine and two teenage sisters of Ajesh Binki, who were killed in the February 15 firing by the naval guards on board the vessel off Kollam coast. The petitioners had complained about the inadequacy of the bank guarantee by the single judge.
