Jagathy Sreekumar undergoes tracheotomy surgery

Sunday, March 18, 2012: Doctors at the Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) hospital on Sunday conducted the tracheotomy procedure on actor Jagathy Sreekumar, who is undergoing treatment after he was seriously injured in a car accident on March 10.
Tracheotomy is a surgical procedure to create an opening through the neck into the trachea (windpipe). A tube is usually placed through this opening to provide an airway and to remove secretions from the lungs.
A bulletin released by the MIMS hospital here said “Sreekumar’s condition is overall stable”. “Sreekumar is slowly recovering from his injuries and sedation. All parameters such as heart, kidney and liver functioning are satisfactory. He is breathing on his own and keeping up oxygenation helped by a ventilator,” the bulletin said
