Kingpin of spirit mafia arrested in Thrissur

Thursday, March 15, 2012: The special investigation team of the police under Irinjalakuda DYSP Biju Bhaskar on Thursday arrested leading spirit kingpin of the inter-State spirit smuggling mafia Bimaldas and his assistant Chittoor Ramesh.
Police suspects that the mafia has strong links in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra where they had set up godowns to store the spirit for smuggling into Kerala.
‘There are some powerful persons involved in these States.The investigation would try to book them too’ , police said.
The matter came into open when the excise officials apprehended a lorry with litres of spirit at Irigalakkuda eightth of this month.
