Lakeshore doctor rams car into striking nurses


KOCHI: Dr Mohan C Manjakara, a senior specialist in pulmonary medicine at the Lakeshore Hospital, was arrested on Friday after he rammed his car into the a group of nurses who were holding a road blockade near the entrance of the Lakeshore Hospital.
Four members of the Indian Nurses’ Association (INA), including Ernakulam district secretary of INA Jibin Lohi, was injured in the incident. According to the police, Dr Mohan was in an inebriated state. He was released on bail after registering a case.  Earlier, another employee of the engineering section of the hospital had rammed his car into two nurses. The nurses’ union has alleged that both the incidents took place with the connivance of the hospital management. The road blockade at the hospital entrance had begun after the talks between the hospital management and the nurses’ union failed on Thursday.
Former ministers Thomas Isaac MLA and Binoy Vishwam visited the striking nurses at the hospital.
