Mild tremor jolts Idukki again
Monday, March 05, 2012: A mild tremor measuring 2.1 on richter scale was felt on Monday morning in Idukki district, where the 116-year-old Mullaperiyar dam over which Kerala and Tamil Nadu are at loggerheads with conflicting claims about its safety is located.
The tremors were felt at Kulamavu, Moolamattom and Cheruthoni. No casualty or property loss was reported due to the tremor felt. The tremors occurred at 12.17 am.
The area had recorded as many as 30 mild quakes since July last year with Kerala citing it as a threat to the dam and insisting on building a new reservoir to replace the existing one which it contends is weak.
